  1. Updating contact details

I have just spent the past 90 minutes updating contact details – much longer than it should take. Would be nice if I could just update say on Plaxo, and linkedin, Facebook etc would receive the updates but I guess we haven’t got to that stage yet. Have also sent out emails to lots of people, so apologies if you haven’t received one.

The main change is my mobile number – it belonged to vizrt, with whom my last day was officially the 31st of December. So please remove that from your records, I am waiting for company registration details to go through before I get a proper new mobile number but in the meantime reach me at tim@ the usual places or skype me on timchild.

Just to reiterate – my mobile number is no more.

  2. Christmas!

It’s been another Christmas, and almost a full year.

Christmas was good this year – Mum and Dad came over and spent it in Sweden, a little bit of time in Stockholm but mostly in the country. I think they really enjoyed meeting Harriet for the first time. Harriet enjoyed meeting them too but I don’t think that she really noticed Christmas this year.

She got lots of nice things to make her life cosy, her teddy bear and soft toy collection is growing almost as fast as her clothing collection is.

I seemed to spend most of the time cooking, this year was Beef and Moose Wellington. I would say it suits Beef better but it was good to try anyways.

So now its just some time before new year.

  3. Last week – an update

Been quite busy over the last week, getting things ready for the baby and it was Kristin’s Birthday.

We went out for a meal at Sjögräsin Södermalm ( south Stockholm ) and it was really good. I had a nice Reindeer steak with Hazelnuts and Cranberries, and then a Run tasting for desert. Next time I will go for a starter as the portions are quite small in this dish, though I saw a couple of tables over a huge portion of what looked like a salad being served. Anyway I would recommend it.

This weekend we went to Paladar de Cuba again, this time for a friends leaving party. Love the food there too.

At home last night I cooked a lovely Roast Lamb which I think was almost as good as anything I have eaten out recently though it did serve to show me that I really need a meat thermometer. Getting lamb the right temperature in the middle is rather tricky when its not on the bone.

In the past week I have also been playing around with my hackintosh, a seriously easy build and a great way to get a fast and inexpensive OS X solution.

  4. Update from the summer

Its been a while since I have posted an update here other some technical posts.

So the big news is that we are expecting a baby, and this has really consumed most of the thoughts over the summer and changed our behaviour somewhat! Everything seems to be about getting ready for the big day (In November) and the huge changes that will come with it.

But we managed to go on some picnics and tried to make the most of the short summer here in Sweden.

I have been working on the bedroom which I can say is finally just about ready. The door way is filled in, decorated and the plasma screen put up on the wall. I wallpapered the other couple of walls and painted everything else. We both think it looks good. I have also been sorting out a desk to work from at home, and the network and geeky computer stuff – probably will post about that at some other time.

    Wallpapering

That took up some of the holidays, then we went to Bulgaria for some sun and relaxation – it was nice but I don’t think that we will be going again as the Bulgarians seem to have ruined their own countryside in the name of tourism.

For the last part of the holiday Mum came to visit us in Sweden and we took her in to the countryside and a good time was had by all.

So now its the big run up to the baby being born!

  5. Loving Alexandros Vasmoulakis’s work

    Just really fantastic imagery:

I have to get some of these paintings I think, trouble is he paints them on the side of buildings:

Maybe a small one painted in the living room would look cool.

  6. More nice things for the home

Last weekend we went on quite the shopping spree, taking advantage of the summer sun, the summer sale and the good mood generally about in Stockholm.

First stop after lunch was Iittala again and we got the following:

    Taika_mug_0.4L_white.jpg

A Taika mug to go with the Taika bowl we bought earlier. And also some Alvar Alto tiny bowls / tea light holders:

We got some for presents and then 2 green and 2 blue for the home. And we also picked up some Moomin (Mumin) cups (which are from Arabia – part of the Iittala group and designed by Tove Slotte-Elevant).

Hattifatteners, The Groke, Sniff, Love, Stinky and I think snufkin.

And we also bought and Iittala slotted turner for the kitchen, but I am not going to post a photo of that.

To take advantage of the weather we also bought a Sagaform picnic set (Nicely modelled by Kristin):

And that was the ending of the shopping spree for sometime.

  7. This week in review

Another week gone by, another update.

So this week gone by was a bit of a strange one, though probably normal for a Swede, Thursday was off, Friday back to work and then the weekend off. A lot of people take the Friday off from work so Stockholm was beautifully quiet, just like the holiday period.

So it was more bike rides, around Djurgärden up in to Östermalm and back in to Södermalm.

We also went for a trip to Saluhallen and bought some really nice Monkfish and other products.

Also been watching breaking bad, one of the best series that I have seen on TV.

Sunday we went to Hermans which has a great view of the city.
