About this blog

Why this blog came about

I mainly put together this blog not to whitter on endlessly about trivialities but to keep a record of what I have been doing and seeing around the web. From any day to day a person such as myself may see many interesting sites, columns, comments and more, and this seemed the best way to capture them and my thoughts at the same time. Some may not have any obvious use to myself at the time, but many is the time that I have wanted to remember but had brain failure on interesting little things!

Who is the intended audience

I actually never had an intended audience in mind when creating blog.timc3.com, it was mainly for my own use, but there are people out there that share many of the same interests that I do and might be interested in exploring the same avenues, which I think has been the large success in blogging but not one that I am trying to get market share in.

Why didn’t I use an off the shelf piece of software the first time around?

Firstly I thought that the whole concept looked simple, I didn’t need anything that was bloated, I just needed something that met my requirements and nothing else.
Secondly creating something always gives better insight into how things function and keeps skills fresh.

What did I choose?

When starting this blog I already had an interest in a standards based approach as championed by many so I choose to use the following technologies used by a large majority of developers, coders and designers out there.

  • XHTML 1.0 Transitional
  • CSS with external seasonly changing style sheets
  • Linux based Server.
  • MySQL Database Server
  • Apache 1.3
  • PHP 4
  • JPEG and GIF graphics

Why WordPress now?

Simply when I was creating version 2 of the software above, all the features I was wanting to implement, less a couple, came part of WordPress or one of the many plugins, so what was the point in reinventing the wheel. Anything I need I can create as a plugin or an extra resource, then I will simply release it to the world.

Where did I get all the information from?

All the information sources will be linked in from the page so that I can actually remember them myself when looking back through so you should be able to find though the posts and through the Worthy Visits sub-section. Apart from that I am rather partial to http://www.reuters.com, http://www.mit.edu/ and the humhum.be forum..
