Getting a Swedish bank account..

So today I went to the Swedbank bank in Stockholm to see about getting a bank account, but this dream was rather short lived. It seems that there is a new law saying that I have to have a Swedish ID card to get the bank account.

To get the Swedish Identity card, I need to get a Swedish Personal number and to get this have to have registered with the Tax office. Well I did that 2 weeks ago and I am still waiting.

Looks like this process is going to take longer than I thought.

Sounds like you’re having fun with this mate…

Why is it that so many countries that are part of the EU make it so difficult for people to relocate? Obvisouly, freedom of movement of capital does not equate to freedom of movement of people and personal mobility….

My sister went through exactly the same problems when she relocated to Spain… you think the UK has the monopoly on pen pushing and red tape, the Spanish have it down to a tee.

I registered with the tax office, got a personal number ….but…apparently that dosen’t qualify me to get a Swedish ID-Card. Marriage would, but I don’t see that as a rational means to getting a tracking device, a wife would be tracking me enough :).This means that right now no bank account… Heck all I can do is join the libary, nothing else, no video clubs or night clubs will entertain me.
I’m too proud to accept the dole, never had to, IM an IT geek, used to an hourly fee - but now I cant even be a…. all other jobs are for Swedish speakers, might try my hand at cleaning…. Things look bleak. I keep hearing about how immigrants drain an economy, well with a ‘run-around’ like this I’m not surprised, it’s self fulfilling or maybe cleverly designed to appear so. Politically sweden has just swung right.. should this perception can turn to reality, which would in turn increase support for them… conspiracy theory maybe, but faced with civil servants hanging up on me when they hear an English speaker or simply switching round the same switchboard over n over, an educated man grasps at the improbable, as far off as it may seem. In the words of Bono.. dont let them get you down :)
