-image-Linux - again

Well I have finally got fed up with copying media around my home network, and having movies, music and pictures located in so many different places on so many PCs I thought that I would create one machine that would hold everything.

Of course this is running Debian 3.0 at the moment, and I am just installing all that is needed, but it looks like it is going to be a solid Samba install on a machine with a lot of space. In the near future I hope to have 1.3Tb of online storage on this machine, which should be enough for the near future.

Of course Debian in its wisedom has installed appletalk so I have removed it by:

apt-get remove netatalk

Instead if you wanted to keep it installed, a service manager like sysv-rc-conf could be installed and used.

-image-Tuesdays applications

Should have posted this ages ago.

Been finding more applications that are really nice.

Firstly WinZip is a pain in the backside so try out 7Zip. It handles many types of files.
Adobe Reader is slow and also a complete pain try Foxit.

For Mac I am currently trialling Ecto2 and MarsEdit for blogging purposes. I will blog how I get on.

And I have switched my newsfeeds from my PC where I was using FeedDemon to the Mac where I tried Vienna, didn’t like it so went back to the old favourite - NetNewsWire. Think I am going to have to buy that when the trial runs out!

Oh and Camino has released its 1.0 Version. The essential app for OSX as far as I am concerned.

-image-Back from skiing

Hi all, I am back from Skiing in Norway now, so I have a bit more access to the internet than I did before. I am not sure of the phone charges when using my mobile to connect to the internet so I only used it to check my bank account and pay a couple of bills.

The Mac and the phone work flawlessly together though so no complaints there, and the holiday was great - some really nice weather and some good skiing. Expect to see some photos shortly.

Now I need to get back into checking my RSS feeds as I only have another 1433 posts before I have looked at everything ;-)
